Having arthritis and finding it tough!! Please don`t worry!!
To create awareness regarding arthritis, world arthritis day is observed on 12th of October. Arthritis is very painful and many suffer from this issue now. It must be noted that arthritis mostly affects the joints leading to pain, swelling, stiffness etc. Cartilage provides cushion to the joints in us and when this cartilage degrades or gets inflamed etc due to continuous usage then we could get arthritis.
Though there is no total cure for arthritis problems, it can be managed by doing certain exercises every day. It is believed that the exercises would strengthen the muscles around the joints and thereby flexibility would get improved. By this the joint pain would get reduced well.
The exercises are
Walking:
A low impact exercise that would help in keeping the joints flexible is walking. Circulation would get better and this would lower the inflammation in the joints. The muscles present around the joints would get strengthened by regular walking. This would lower the stress and reduce the pain.
Swimming:
An exercise that would be gentle on the joints and provide resistance is swimming. It is believed that the pressure on the joints would get lowered by the buoyancy of the water. By this, persons with arthritis would be able to move more freely. Point to be noted is that swimming would increase the motion range plus improve our cardiovascular health and reduce joint pain.
Cycling:
Joint mobility would be promoted by cycling, especially a stationary bike. Especially around the knees and hips, joint muscles would get strengthened. Blood circulation would get better due to smooth cycling motion and this would reduce the joint stiffness also.
Yoga:
By doing yoga joint pain could be managed. When we do yoga, there would be gentle stretching combined with deep breathing and meditation etc. It would be superb to do child pose or cat cow pose etc that would improve the flexibility and strengthen muscles.
Pilates:
By doing pilates, a person could get muscle strength without strain on the joints. By doing pilates, posture and stability would get improved and pressure on the affected joints would get relieved. Doing this exercise daily would reduce ththe joint pain.
Stretching:
There would be improved flexibility and range of motion in the joints by doing stretching exercises etc. It is true that gentle stretches would lower stiffness and would improve blood flow to the joints.
